Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to leave office when his second term ends next year.
Speaking when he was hosted on Citizen TV’s JKL show on Wednesday night, the ex-lawmaker claimed that the President might not be planning to quit office next year as the Constitution expects him to.
“I do not think Uhuru plans to exit the political scene. Constitutionally, he will not have the leeway as he cannot extend his term…he must finish and go,” Kabando said.
He claimed the President fell out with his deputy William Ruto because the former wants Baringo Senator Gideon Moi to succeed him.
The Constitution allows a President to serve for a maximum of five-year two terms consecutively.
President Kenyatta’s term ends in August 2022.
