Deputy President William Ruto has managed to convince Moses Kuria to drop his party’s candidate for Kiambaa by-election following a simmering sibling rivalry with United Democratic Alliance.
On Monday morning, Kuria, the Gatundu South MP and the leader of People Empowerment Party (PEP), said he had spoken with the DP over the bitter exchange with his colleagues Rigathi Gachagua and Kimani Ichungw’a and agreed not to contest in the coming by-election slated for July 15 in favour of UDA candidate.
“Yesterday I held extensive discussions with my boss and friend H.E Dr William Ruto on this matter. To make my two colleagues happy and above all for the unity of the Hustler Nation, PEP will NOT be fielding a candidate for the Kiambaa by election,” said Kuria.
UDA picked John Njuguna Wanjiku to fly its flag during the election ocassioned by the death of area MP Paul Koinange.
At the weekend, the rivalry between Kuria and Gachagua, both members of the Hustler Nation and associates of the DP, escalated as they took on on another over which party stood a better chance of winning the poll.
Kuria’s party is smarting from a decisive victory after the outfit’s candidate, George Koimburi, easily won the Juja by-election last week.
Kuria wanted to capitalise on the victory by fielding a candidate in Kiambaa which is also in Kiambu as Juja.
